Describe your request well to get better quotes

4 min read

Why the description changes everything

A worker who understands your need precisely can quote a fair price without a site visit. A vague request forces workers to guess: they pad their price to cover surprises, or ask ten questions before committing. The result: fewer quotes, more expensive, slower.

Good news: describing a request well takes five minutes and requires no technical knowledge.

The 4 ingredients of a good request

1. The what, in one sentence: “Clean the gutters of a one-storey bungalow” beats “gutter work”. State the building type (bungalow, cottage, condo) and the scale (whole house, one room, a 10-metre hedge).

2. Access and constraints: is there a slope, a dog, a pool, tricky parking? Is a ladder above two storeys needed? These details prevent bad surprises — and renegotiations.

3. Photos: up to 3 photos per request. One overview photo + one close-up of the problem is often enough. On AlloPro, photos help workers quote without a visit.

4. Realistic availability: urgent, fixed date or flexible. A flexible request often gets better prices, because the worker can fit it into a gap in their schedule.

What NOT to include

Never put your contact details (phone, email) or exact address in the description. On AlloPro, that information stays hidden and is shared automatically after payment in trust — that's what protects both parties. Your area (city and postal code) is enough for workers to quote.
